About Us

Our Mission

The mission of Faraja Hope Generation (FHG) is to improve the quality of life of impoverished and marginalized women and children by facilitating access to resources and education training that cultivates essential skills and creates opportunities for work to prevent generational poverty.

Our Vision

To provide women and children with dignity and hope for a better future by giving them the tools they need to improve themselves, their families, and their circumstances.

Who We Are

FHG is a charitable and educational organization that was born out of love for the Congolese people, frustration for the current broken system purported by nonprofit & development sectors, and hope for a better future. While the landscape of philanthropy has evolved over the decades, global poverty has sustained in various parts of the world, including in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR- Congo). Despite being one of the most natural-resource rich countries, the people of DR Congo have experienced resource inequity, conflict, and devastating economic dependency to foreign material support distribution. We believe the foreign material distribution structure and infrastructure supported by well-known nonprofit organizations is broken. It fails to provide sustained positive impact and prosperity in marginalized communities.

What We Do

FHG “teaches people how to fish” so that they can thrive.

We believe that work is the foundation that improves and empowers people, their families, and their communities for a better future. And access to resources cements equity for success.

We begin our work by first understanding the challenge faced by the marginalized community. We identify barriers to change, design an adaptive program customized for the community being served, implement the program, monitor progress, and evaluate success. As FHG staff are active members of the Congolese community, we can easily navigate the community with minimal cultural resistance. Most importantly, our programs are well supported within the community, and they work!

FHG programs promote acquisition of transferable skills and entrepreneurship. For example, we provide support to those who are interested in creating profitable micro-businesses by providing skills training and internships to ensure success in self-employment or well-paid employment. We design our programs with compassion, integrity, and dignity for the people we serve.

Our long-term goal is to grow our programs to provide access to essential human needs such as clean water, food, and housing to allow people to channel their energy into achieving security.
